5th September, 2018, saw the 12th class biology students of D.A.V. Public School, Sahibabad, arriving at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali, with curious eyes, eager hearts and open minds. The class of 34 young scholars was led through the various state-of-the-art laboratories of the hospital like, the Pathology Lab, the Biochemistry and Immunology Lab, the Microbiology Lab and the Histopathology Lab, while receiving a brief description of the lab by expert personnel. At the Haematology lab section, they had an overview of various diagnostic tests, at the Histopathology lab, they saw various organs kept inside the formaldehyde solution and also had an overview of how to make blocks and slides of tissues and at the Microbiology lab section, they were given intensive information about different types of microbes, various microbial cultures and their use. Microbiologists showed the culture vials in which bacteria grow and then they add antibiotics to see which antibiotic is affective to kill the bacteria. Based on these reports, doctors prescribe medicines to patients in which the antibiotic salts are present. Mr. Prabhat (Sr. Scientific Officer) showed sample vials and chemicals existing in them and their uses. Students also saw the analyzer with the help of which technicians can process a number of samples together. The lab visit ended with an informative interactive session with Dr. Mohini Bhargawa (HOD Pathlab) and Dr. Ankit Gupta (Microbiologist) where students were updated with present techniques and technology used in hospitals. Students were motivated to come forward and do good things for the nation apart from highlighting the role of information technology in medical science to serve in better way by saving time and reducing typing human error.
